Rhinoplasty (Rhinos, "Nose" + Plassein, "to shape") also known as "nose reshaping" or "nose job" is a surgical procedure performed by aesthetic, plastic surgeon in order to improve the function (reconstructive surgery) or the appearance (Aesthetic surgery) of the nose. It is one of the most commonly performed aesthetic surgical operation in Cyprus. Rhinoplasty is clearly the most elegant and sophisticated of all facial plastic surgical procedures.
In cases where there is some associated breathing obstruction, internal nasal surgery such as a septoplasty may need to be performed. Rhinoplasty often involves removal of a hump, refining a bulbous or thick tip, and narrowing a nose. This can improve the proportionality of the nose to other facial features and thereby create a more smooth and harmonious appearance. Although generally performed on the younger age groups, excellent results may be obtained on patients in their fifties and sixties. Rhinoplasty can be combined with other surgical procedures such as chin augmentation to enhance the aesthetic results and harmony in Cyprus Aesthetic Center.
The operation is usually performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Surgery duration is 1.5 to 2.5 hours depending on patient expectations. Almost all patients are discharged within 6 hours or sometimes next morning following surgery feeling quite comfortable and generally free of pain. In addition to the nose itself, the eyelid region may become swollen. Patients should avoid sun, especially in a place like Cyprus, for at least 1 week. Patients often have small nasal packing which is removed in the first few days. After the second day, you can turn back to the routine, for instance you can go to a movie. The small bandage protecting the outside of the nose remains in place for 7 to 10 days. Patients usually are able to return to activities such as work or school at this time. You should not use eyeglasses for at least 2-4 weeks. Strenuous sports, exercises, or other physical activities should be curtailed for approximately 3 to 6 additional weeks.
Generally it takes several weeks for the majority of the swelling to disappear. This is a gradual process that cannot be accelerated. Small, subtle, and generally favorable changes take place over a period of several months. The final result may not be apparent for several months and it usually takes 6 months to a full year to completely appreciate the final result.
