Male breast reduction is done for men with gynecomastia, a condition of male breast overdevelopment. Gynecomastia, is the development of abnormally large mammary glands in males resulting in breast enlargement. The causes of common gynecomastia remain uncertain, although it has generally been attributed to an imbalance of sex hormones or the tissue responsiveness to them; a root cause is rarely determined for individual cases.

           Although certain drugs such as anabolic steroids, medications containing estrogen, alcohol, marijuana, etc., and medical conditions including cancer, impaired liver function, to name a few, may cause or contribute to enlarged male breasts, it is widely accepted that a large percentage of cases derive from unknown sources. Some of the body builders have gynecomastia. The main reason for gynecomastia is the high dosage of masculinity hormone (anabolic steroids) that they use. This masculinity hormone is used a base material which is like femaleness hormone is formed and it causes breasts to grow.

    Breast prominence can result from hypertrophy of breast tissue, chest adipose tissue (fat) and skin, and is typically a combination. We remove fat and/or glandular tissue from the breasts, and in extreme cases removes excess skin, resulting in a chest that is flatter, firmer, and better contoured in Cyprus Aesthetic Center. The surgery often involves liposuction and sometimes some component of direct breast excision done through a semicircular incision around the areola. In cases of skin excess, additional incisions will need to be made for skin removal.

           The procedure is done under general anesthesia and takes about 1-2 hours. Patients are placed in a compression vest after surgery to minimize fluid accumulation and fasten skin retraction. This must be worn for 2-4 weeks. There will be some bruising which will disappear over 1-2 weeks.
